With "CityARTists", the NRW KULTURsekretariat is launching a new support programme in the field of the visual arts from 2020. A total of ten selected artists in the fields of painting, sculpture, photography and installation up to the border areas of the performing arts will receive a prize in the form of a grant of 5,000 euros each.
The announcement is aimed at professional artists who have enjoyed a certified education and/or have had a number of exhibitions in museums, art galleries or galleries.
Applicants must be over 50 years of age and have their current place of residence in one of the member cities of the NRWKS; in addition, they must indicate the purpose for which the scholarship applied for is to be used.
The period for the state-wide call for applications in all member cities began in early December 2019 and ended on 15.3.2020.
At the end of the application period, 20 suitable artists were selected by a locally composed jury (one artist per city).
A jury of the NRWKS recommended ten of the nominated artists as prizewinners. They will be awarded the prize on 8 October 2020 in a closed event in Wuppertal.
The project was developed by the Programme Committee of the NRWKS member cities. Following the first cycle, a joint evaluation of the project's progress will take place, which will be included in the 2021 call for proposals.
Since mid-June, a new website at www.cityartists.de has provided information on current project developments.
