With "CityARTists", the NRW KULTURsekretariat 2020 has launched a new support programme in the field of the visual arts with a total budget of 50,000 euros, which was developed jointly with the member cities of the NRWKS.
Each year, a total of ten selected artists in the fields of painting, sculpture, photography and installation, including the borderline areas of the performing arts, will receive a prize in the form of a grant of 5,000 euros each. The prize is aimed at professional artists over 50, resident in one of the member cities of the NRWKS.
The state-wide call for entries in all member cities will begin on 11 January and end on 30 April 2021. After the closing date, suitable artists will be selected by locally constituted juries, one artist per city.
The selected artists will then be proposed to a jury of the NRWKS, which will recommend up to ten artists as prizewinners at the beginning of September. The award ceremony will take place in one of the member cities at the beginning of October.
All information on the call for entries will be made available on the specially created website cityartists.de.
Within the first cycle, ten artists from ten of the 21 member cities were awarded for the first time in autumn 2020: Laas Abendroth (Mülheim an der Ruhr), Anne Berlit (Essen), Danuta Karsten (Recklinghausen), Christoph Korn (Wuppertal), Susanne Kümpel (Cologne), Silvia Liebig (Dortmund), Thomas Pöhler (Krefeld), Matthias Schamp (Bochum), Klaus Schmitt (Mönchengladbach) und Josef Schulz (Düsseldorf).
The award ceremony in Wuppertal had to be cancelled due to corona Cancellations and suspected cases can be cancelled at short notice.
