The nationwide funding programme "Kulturstrolche" (Culture Rascals) offers every child, even at primary school age, the opportunity to actively come into contact with a wide variety of art forms and institutions, thus opening up the cultural diversity of their own city.
In 2019 the funding programme was conceptually revised and updated in design, also digitally at kulturstrolche.de.
Cultural institutions and artists in cooperation with the local project managers develop a varied and high-quality cultural offer, which includes all sectors and is tailored to the specific age group of the "Kulturstrolche".
Selected schools as well as classes participate in the project and visit the various cultural offers in class and accompanied by teachers.
They are in close contact with the respective cultural providers in order to prepare and follow up the cultural experiences.
From the 2nd to the 4th school year, the pupils have the opportunity to try out culture and to discover for themselves what they like and what is particularly enjoyable by experimenting.
At the beginning, each child receives a "Kulturstrolche" passport in which their visits and projects in the institutions are documented. Small branch-specific stickers remind them of many experiences and exciting exploratory tours.
The benefits are on both sides: Through the "Kulturstrolche", the children get to know as many cultural sectors as possible personally and are introduced systematically and at an early age to the cultural offerings of their surroundings.
By actively dealing with different forms of art, they gain aesthetic experience and develop cultural skills. At the same time, they become familiar with the offerings of cultural institutions, which in turn use the programme to develop cultural offerings and profiles for a young target group with sustainable perspectives and binding power. Schools in turn can sharpen their cultural profile through the support programme.
In addition, the "Kulturstrolche" interlink cultural institutions and schools and create the breeding ground for further cultural education projects, ideally also in joint sponsorship.
Since the 2011/12 school year, the NRW KULTURsekretariat has been offering its member cities the "Kulturstrolche" as a cultural education programme, in cooperation with the Kultursekretariat NRW Gütersloh. In total, almost 40 school classes and more than 70 cultural institutions have participated since the start of the support. The cities of Bielefeld, Bochum, Bonn, Düsseldorf, Duisburg, Gelsenkirchen, Hagen, Köln, Moers, Neuss, Oberhausen and Recklinghausen are currently participating.
